Kozar Cares is a family run non-profit

dedicated to helping childhood cancer patients cope with their treatment, which can last years.

One of the primary ways we do this is by providing treatment centers with books for fun and education.

Most patients spend around three years in treatment, which can be tough for children that may not have the ability to cope with the pain and discomfort that comes with each visit.

Distraction and support has been found to be extremely effective in helping children get through each of their chemotherapy treatment visits. To address this, treatment centers have programs such as Child Life that provides patients with an assortment of toys, games, TV/tablets and visits from specialists accompanied by support dogs such as Posie at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. In addition, Kozar Cares provides these treatment centers with fun leisure books for patients to keep and enjoy.

Additionally, the impact to school and their education can be very challenging and detrimental to patients if not addressed from the start. Most patients will be absent for almost an entire school year during the initial stages of treatment. Because of this, treatment centers have resources for patients and their care givers to help navigate the potential impact of childhood cancer treatment on the patients’ education. Kozar Cares helps this aspect of support by also providing patients with educational books designed to provide patients with a fun and meaningful way to augment of their education.
