Our Story
On Mother’s Day in 2022, after three long months of mystery illness,
our five-year-old daughter, Charlotte Kozar, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
Not knowing what to expect from the prognosis, we were devastated. After a month of initial treatment and genetic testing, we learned that her leukemia was very treatable and advances in treatment protocol meant she could not only survive, but also lead a normal life without risk of learning, development or reproductive deficiencies due to the harsh effects of chemotherapy.
Her treatment still was long, painful and very disruptive to her life. She ended up missing the end of her last Preschool year and all but two months at the end of her Kindergarten year. If not for the toys, games, TVs and routine visits from Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children’s Child Life Team and their facility dog, Posey, she would have been truly miserable every treatment visit.
Today, January 27, 2024, Charlotte is roughly eight months away from completing her long treatment and enjoying the rest of her life, cancer free. It is with this end in sight that we, her parents, Kory and Fatima Kozar, look to give back in the form of our non-profit foundation, Kozar Cares.
